The truth behind ‘gaming jihad’: How media skipped facts to manufacture a story

“Today, we will show one of the most modern and dangerous games – played with schoolboys in India. Four cases have come to light, where boys playing online games were brainwashed using video games and instigated to adopt Islam.”

This is how Aaj Tak’s Sudhir Chaudhary whipped up fear and rage about “gaming jihad” – a new and insidious scourge in India by which young Hindu boys are allegedly “converted” online. In his broadcast on June 6, Chaudhary said two of the boys were from Ghaziabad and one each from Faridabad and Chandigarh.
