The Traitors contestant Ross has said he was “shocked” at the investigative abilities of the British public, who speculated that he was in a relationship with contestant Ellie.

The pair kept their relationship a secret while on the BBC One reality game show, which was cut short for Ross after he was banished by his fellow faithfuls during Wednesday night’s episode.

At the end of the episode, psychologist Ellie revealed their secret relationship with the sales executive and personal trainer, confirming online theories from fans who had found a photograph of the pair together on social media.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2, Ross said: “I am shocked at the impressive investigative abilities of the British public.”

When asked about how difficult it was to clear his social media accounts before joining the game, he added: “Quite a job, quite a task, honestly.

“I thought we’d done really well, to be fair to you.”

Ross also said he is backing his partner Ellie to take home the winning title for the fourth series of the hit programme.

He added: “Ellie all the way. Bring it back for the household.”

Ross became the third contestant to be banished from the castle after his fellow faithfuls grew suspicious of him because he knew one of the other contestants, Netty. However, he said he planned not to tell the others.

He described the moment he revealed his true identity to the players as “amazing”, adding that it was “worth everything” he had been through on the game up until that point.

“It was fantastic,” he said.

Wednesday’s episode also revealed that Fiona was the red-cloaked secret traitor, joining traitors Rachel and Stephen, while four contestants, Reece, Maz, Sam and traitor Stephen, were left vulnerable to the next murder after they failed to win themselves protection.

The Traitors returns to BBC One and iPlayer on Thursday at 8pm.
