The top team running the EG Group empire that was founded by the billionaire Issa brothers

EG Group one of the largest private companies headquartered in the North West.

It started out as a single petrol station in Bury run by brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa and grew to into the Euro Garages brand with sites across the country.

After welcoming in private equity giant TDR Capital, it became EG group and expanded into Europe.

The Blackburn-headquartered group has since gone on to acquire brands such as Leon and Cooplands as well as Go Fresh, Cumberland Farms and Loaf 'N Jug while the Issa brothers have become billionaires and separately bought supermarket giant Asda.

In its most recently available set of financial figures, for the three months to March 31, 2022, Eg group's sales totalled $6.910bn and its EBITDA was $270m.

The brothers were recently beaten by Morrisons in their bid to rescue McColl's.

Lord Stuart Rose

Lord Rose was appointed as chairman and chair of the nominations committee in January 2021 having worked in the retail industry for over 40 years, including over 25 years board-level experience.

He has been chief executive at Argos, Booker, Iceland, Arcadia Group and Marks & Spencer and chairman at Marks & Spencer and Ocado Group.

He was knighted in 2008 for services to the retail industry and corporate social responsibility and granted a life peerage in August 2014.

Mohsin Issa

Mohsin Issa is co-founder and co-CEO of EG Group and has been active in the fuel forecourt and retail convenience industry since 2001.

Prior to founding EG Group, he held senior leadership roles at various Issa family businesses.

Alongside his brother Zuber, and more recently, honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 for his contribution to business and charity.

Zuber Issa

Zuber Issa is co-founder and co-CEO of EG Group and entered into the business world at an early age.

Prior to founding EG Group in 2001, he established a number of enterprises including a chain of newsagents in busy mall locations in the North West of England.

Mr Issa was honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 for his contribution to business and charity.

Manjit Dale

Manjit Dale founded TDR Capital with Stephen Robertson in 2002, with whom he had previously worked at DB Capital Partners.

He has over 25 years of experience in private equity, leveraged finance and consulting.

Previously he was managing director and head of DB Capital Partners Europe and predecessor firm BT Capital Partners, which he joined in 1994.

He started his career in the management consultancy division of Arthur Andersen and moved into private equity in 1989 with 3i plc, and later with NM Rothschild.

Mr Dale is a non-executive director of EG Group.

Gary Lindsay

Gary Lindsay joined TDR Capital in June 2008. He is involved in the day-to-day management of TDRs investment’s in EG Group, Modulaire Group, William Scotsman-Mobile Mini and Target Hospitality and responsible for originating new transactions.

He is non-executive director at EG Group, Modulaire Group, William Scotsman-Mobile Mini and Target Hospitality.

Prior to joining TDR, he worked at both Citi and Bear Stearns in London and New York.

John Carey

John Carey was appointed as a non-executive director in November 2020 who most recently held executive positions at BP and ADNOC Distribution.

He led ADNOC’s IPO in 2018, the largest recent IPO of an entity that includes C-store operations.

Dame Alison Carnwath

Dame Alison chaired property company Land Securities for 10 years before retiring in 2018.

She was also a director at BP, Friends Provident, Gallaher, Barclays and Man Group among others.

She is currently chair of the audit committee at Zurich Insurance and BASF, chair of the strategic advisory board at Livingbridge Private Equity, a director of Coller Capital and a non-executive at Paccar, a Fortune 500 company listed on NASDAQ.

She is a trustee of the Economist Group and a former member of the United Kingdom Takeover Panel.

She was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2014 for services to business.

Dame Alison is an independent non-executive director at EG Group.

Imraan Patel

Imraan Patel joined EG Group in 2016 as general counsel and company secretary.

He qualified as a solicitor in the City of London in 2003 and has held a variety of roles at Orange SA, BT Group plc and City of London law firm, Ashurst LLP.
