England’s Lionesses are just days away from playing against Spain in an effort to bring the World Cup home.
They roared into the final following impressive goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp, and Alessia Russo during their semi-final match against Australia.
And it turns out that a specific song the team likes to play before matches might be playing a role in England’s Women’s undeniable success.
While sports teams often have their rituals and go-to songs to pump themselves up before games, the one that the Lionesses preferred was surprising to many.
In a recent press conference, Russo shared that the team like to listen to Foundations by Kate Nash on the bus before games. She also revealed that Katie Zelem is the worst singer on the team.
She said: “We do like a little sing-along on the bus. I think the song at the moment is actually Foundations by Kate Nash and that seems to be a popular one at the moment.
“So everyone sings along to that. Everyone actually joins in.
“But Katie Zelem is the worst singer we’ve got on our team, but she sings like she’s Adele on the back of the bus. But yeah, her voice isn’t great, but she gives it 10 out of 10.”

The song is a surprising choice given that it has no motivational angle. Foundations is a sad love song about a relationship that is as dysfunctional as it gets.
The lyrics say: “Then you’ll call me a bitch, and everyone we’re with will be embarrassed, and I won’t give a sh*t.
“My fingertips are holding onto, the cracks in our foundation, and I know I should let go, but I can’t.
“And every time we fight, I know it’s not right, every time that you’re upset and I smile, I know I should forget, but I can’t.”
