Dragons’ Den contestants Laura Waters and Kelli Aspland have an invention that will be very useful in the current weather conditions. The best friends, from Cwmbran, were on the show earlier this year with their children’s sunscreen applicator that has helped their business turn over £1.2million.
The pair created the product after a strict no-touch policy was introduced in their children's school, meaning teachers weren't allowed to help pupils apply the sun protection. The mothers realised there was nothing on the market which helped children independently apply sunscreen and that many of the traditional suncream bottles and applicators were very difficult for children to use on their own.
So the pair, who have no previous experience of business, created the refillable, roll-on, mess free sunscreen applicator after applying for a £5,000 investment from a friend and enlisting the help of product design students at Cardiff Metropolitan University. They created Solar Buddies and went onto the BBC entrepreneurial programme to look for £80,000 for a 10% share in their business.
