It's been a lovely summer, one that has been perfect for venturing out of the house and enjoying the delights that Britain has to offer.
Among the beautiful sunny day spots on our doorstep is Knaresborough, one of North Yorkshire 's delightful market towns and less than an hour's drive from Leeds - shorter if you take the train.
With its iconic viaduct - under which tourists can row a paddle boat - and quaint homes stacked on the hillside, Knaresborough is certainly one of the more picturesque Yorkshire towns. And it certainly is not lacking in things to do if you fancy a day out - even in the cooler months.
There's Mother Shipton's Cave, which has plenty of things on to entertain the kids; as well as the historic Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag, which invites plenty of history buffs. With a number of enjoyable spots around the town to enjoy a bite to eat, you can make a worthwhile afternoon of exploring the town and getting stuck in to all that it has to offer.

And one of the nicest things about Knaresborough is its beautiful riverside walk, which takes you along the busy roads beneath the viaduct and into the woods. The first part of the walk - on a pleasant day - is likely to be busy, as you pass the roadside shops and cafes.
However, as you venture further along, you will find peace and tranquility among the trees - with the unspoilt river running beside you. With many tourists sticking to the area surrounding the Conyngham Hall car park, you can guarantee some quiet if you are prepared to wander a little further afield.
In fact, you could even take a wander through the grounds of Conyngham Hall, which is right on the Riverside Walk. The walk itself is listed as the number one thing to do in Knaresborough, according to TripAdvisor reviewers.
One reviewer said: "What a lovely town this is. Really enjoyed looking around it, seeing the Castle and walking by the river. The views are magnificent. Looking forward very much to a return visit to this gem of a settlement."
Another said: "Absolutely stunning walk. Beautiful long and varied stretch that spans both town and countryside. Almost loathed to recommend it to keep it quieter - can get a little busy in the Summer."
And one suggested that the walk was essential for seeing the "best" that Knaresborough has to offer, they said: "A must when visiting Knaresborough. A lovely walk along the river takes you to the best that this town has to offer. Peaceful, picturesque and serene."
Another reviewer said: "We had a really lovely walk down the Nidd. We found a lovely 4 mile circular walk, which was well signed and an easy walk." And one commented: "A lovely short, circular walk along the Nidd Gorge starting across the main road from near the World's End Pub, passing an old farmery's ruins ( a collection of small farms) before crossing the river via a wooden bridge to reach the other side and lovely views of the river before returning to the main road opposite Mother Shipton's Cave."
