The stunning reservoir Tommy cycles to in Happy Valley only 90 minutes from Greater Manchester

After a gripping finale last weekend Happy Valley fans may find themselves missing their weekly fix of the popular BBC One crime drama. Yet there is one way to keep the Happy Valley magic alive and that's by visiting some of the locations where it was filmed.

Starring Sarah Lancashire as Catherine Cawood and James Norton as Tommy Lee Royce, the show was filmed across the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire. Places such as Hebden Bridge, Halifax and Mytholmroyd all served as the fictional Happy Valley.

One filming location which is particularly stunning is Warley Moor Reservoir. It’s the place where Norton’s character Tommy cycles to after he escapes Leeds Crown Court at the end of episode four.

Warley Moor Reservoir, also known as Fly Flatts Reservoir, is located high up in the moors, approximately four miles north of the village Mytholmroyd. It has breathtaking views across the surrounding area - which Tommy Lee Royce admires as he waits to be picked up by Darius Knezevic.

The reservoir, owned by Yorkshire Water, covers an impressive area of 68 acres and is 45 feet deep. A drinking water reservoir, it was completed in 1872 and built by the engineer John Frederick La Trobe Bateman.

It’s home to Halifax Sailing Club, which is reputedly the highest sailing club in England at an altitude of 1,350 feet. Formed in 1959, the club benefits from the reservoir's exposed and windy location and welcomes dinghy sailors, windsurfers, canoers and kayakers.

The reservoir can be reached by public footpaths and bridleways. For a walk which takes in the gorgeous moorland scenery, you can pick up a bridleway from Ogden Water, where there is a small car park. A six mile route takes you across Mixenden Ings to Cold Edge, and then picks up a lane to the reservoir.
