The eyes of the world will be on Rhossili beach in Gower as visitors jet into Heathrow Airport. For a stunning shot of the popular beauty spot will capture the attention of passengers as they walk through its terminals.
Rhossili is home to one of the top 10 beaches in the world and the best beach in the UK, according to a survey by travel website TripAdvisor. Its dramatic and panoramic views draw people from far and wide. The beach can be reached by a cliff path that meanders down to sea level.
It is probably one of the most photographed views in the UK and people can always be seen gathered near the National Trust shop and car park, cameras out, snapping away at the gorgeous vista of coastline, sand and sea which seems to stretch forever into the horizon. The image on display at Heathrow Airport reveals a different angle on the beach. Looking down from above, it shows the varying hues, colours and textures as the waves roll over the sands. It will be displayed there for a year and will give people a glimpse of what Wales has to offer. You can read about the hotel in Rhossili that's struggling to get staff - here.
Donna Jones is the photographer who took the picture. She said: “If anyone is travelling through Heathrow in the next twelve months, keep an eye out for this image of Rhossili displayed all across the airport - I’m delighted to be flying the flag for Gower on a global scale!
“So thrilled to announce that for the next year, this image of ours will be on display across all terminals throughout Heathrow Airport. It is also exhibited in a video on the Heathrow Express TV screens and on multiple screens within the airport. Huge thanks to Great Britain and Northern Ireland Campaign & The Royal Photographic Society!”
Every year, 75.7 million travel through Heathrow Airport and a total of 84 airlines are connected to the site.
The most popular destinations people head to from the airport include New York (JFK), Dubai, Dublin, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. In 2020, it was the third busiest airport in the world by international passenger traffic, the 22nd busiest by total passenger traffic, and the third busiest airport in Europe.
