Callum Wilson is on course to finish the season as Newcastle United's top goalscorer for the second straight year. The number nine has not played since December, but still remains a goal clear of nearest rival Allan Saint-Maximin.
Wilson's time on Tyneside has been plagued by injuries so far, but the former Bournemouth striker still bagged 12 Premier League goals in his debut black-and-white campaign. The England international so far has six league strikes to his name this term, but has been out of action since December 27 with a calf injury.
Chris Wood was signed in January and Eddie Howe described his performances as 'outstanding', despite a return of just one goal in 11 appearances. Should the Magpies secure their top-flight status, reports indicate another forward is on the transfer shortlist this summer.

Wilson's injury record means Newcastle must strengthen their striking options, with former number nine Dwight Gayle still on the periphery despite United's lack of options. However, a new study suggests the Magpies will find it tough to find a more natural goalscorer.
Research carried out by BettingOdds.com has ranked the most efficient Premier League strikers, according to the metric of fewest touches per goal. Leicester City's Jamie Vardy currently leads the way, with an average of one goal from every 32 touches putting him well clear of his competitors.
Wilson is ranked second on the list, with six strikes from 330 touches giving the striker an average of a goal from every 55 touches. Patson Daka, Diogo Jota, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Mo Salah and Yoane Wissa are the Newcastle number nine's nearest competitors.
It serves as a timely reminder of Wilson's goalscoring record ahead of his expected return before the end of the season. Newcastle will need to strengthen in a number of areas this summer including attack, but the 30-year-old will be hard to displace as the Magpies' main man.
