The State set to oppose Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch's bid to claw back €400,000 Regency Trial legal fees

The State will oppose a bid by Gerry "The Monk" Hutch to get his legal costs back, it has emerged.

Hutch was acquitted last month by the Special Criminal Court of the murder of Kinahan Cartel member David Byrne at the Regency Hotel and walked from court a free man - and is entitled to seek legal fees he paid believed to be up to €400,000.

The application will be heard on Friday, when two long-time friends of the Hutch family convicted of acting as getaway drivers during the notorious hotel attack in 2016 will be sentenced.
