The stat that reveals a major difference between Steve Bruce and Eddie Howe's Newcastle United

Life under Eddie Howe at St James' Park could not be more different than under the previous boss Steve Bruce. The football under the former was lacking in ambition, with the club seemingly content at just surviving in the Premier League rather than striving to be the best it could possibly be.

However, under Howe, who replaced Bruce in November 2021, Newcastle United are a club transformed on the pitch. And one stat in particular highlights the marked difference between the two managers.

The Sky Sports Statto twitter account tweeted out the most points dropped from winning positions in the Premier League this season, which shows that Newcastle have dropped the second most in the League with 24.

However, for the difference between the two managers to be noticed, there needs to be some digging done around those dropped points.

Under Bruce, Newcastle dropped 10 points while under Howe they dropped 12. However, under Bruce, who left the Newcastle job following a defeat to Spurs in October, the Magpies played nine games. Comparatively under Howe, they dropped 12 points in 27 games.

The dropped point stats shows the Magpies became far more resilient under Howe then they ever were under Bruce. As Matt Targett pointed out on the BBC's Football Daily Podcast, Howe always stresses that Newcastle "identity is intensity".

ChronicleLive delved into the fixtures in which Newcastle dropped points in this season under both Bruce and Howe. Take a look below...
