An award-winning Danish bakery in Cardiff has been named among the top 20 best bakeries in the UK. Brod, in Pontcanna, was included in an impressive compilation by the Financial Times and was commended for offering Scandi bakes that are the "real deal".
It's not the first time Brod has been recognised for its excellence. In November last year, its bread was named among the best in the world - earning it three awards at the World Bread Awards.
The bakery, which has two other branches in Cardiff and Penarth, was founded in 2015 by Danish mum and photographer-turned-baker Betina Skovbro. Named after the Danish word for bread, Brod's stores are filled with fresh pastries and goods made that morning – with the bakers starting weekend shifts at midnight and working until the small hours.
The menu includes some of the same staples Betina's grandfather made working in a bakery in Copenhagen years ago. You can read more about the story behind Brod here.
