There was a truly awkward moment at The Brit Awards when Tom Grennan asked Ellie Goulding an inappropriate question about her outfit. Tom was presenting the Best New Artist Award with singer Ellie on Saturday, February 11, live on ITV.
Ellie was wearing a black armoured plate with sculpted breasts to present the gong to the category winner, with singer Tom, and he couldn't seem to resist making a comment about her breasts.
Referencing Ellie's distinctive outfit, Tom said: "Don't I look good next to Ellie Goulding, I love what you're doing." But then he followed it up with a question that made many viewers cringe, saying: "Are they your real boobs?"

Cool and calm Ellie replied: "No, these are not mine, I wish, mine are a lot further apart, sadly." Tom then apologised for his comment with: "Oh sorry, oh ok, sorry."
But the brief exchange had viewers cringing and expressing their feelings about the awkward moment on Twitter. One viewer tweeted: "This was so uncomfortable to watch" and another asked: "Did we just open the door to the past?!" with another agreeing, saying: "I almost cringed myself into a different millennia."
Some strongly expressed their disbelief at what was said, with one viewer posting: "Tom Grennan asking Ellie Goulding about her boobs…in 2023?!" and another saying: "I had to replay and make sure I heard that correctly WTF?????".
One viewer was also shocked at how many people were talking about Ellie's outfit and not the comment made about her breasts, saying: "Also how are people focusing on what someone is wearing and not the cringeworthy moment Tom Grennan decided to ask Ellie Goulding about her breasts on stage like that wasn’t hella inappropriate. Honestly eurgh."
On Sunday, February 12 Ellie and Tom tweeted that the exchange was just a joke between friends with no harm intended that went
Ellie tweeted: "A word on Brit/ tit gate … I was wearing a beautiful breastplate, thank you all for appreciating it ;) My friend @Tom_Grennan is 100% an ally and we were having a bit of fun. No offence taken, no harm intended- and no other interpretations necessary x"
Tom then quote tweeted an apology and more of an explanation, saying: "Love ya @elliegoulding What started as a joke between Ellie and I before we went on stage came out all wrong. The nerves got the better of us, but that does not excuse what was said, and I sincerely apologise to anyone who was offended - that’s not me at all, and I am sorry x"
