The Scottish actors in the running to play the next James Bond

The next James Bond has been a mystery since Daniel Craig hung up his 007 boots after 2021 film No Time To Die.

William Hill has been running the odds since the final film was released, and there have been some serious entries, and others less serious - like Piers Morgan at 1000/1!

But which Scots have been slipped into the running, and who has the best chance? We have all the lowdown on 007 below:

James McAvoy - 250/1

With the worst odds, incredible actor James McAvoy is most well known for his performance in 2016 film Split, where he plays kidnapper Kevin who is diagnosed with 23 distinct personalities.

He made his acting debut as a teen in The Near Room and appeared mostly on television until 2003, when his feature film career began.

James' notable television work includes the thriller State of Play and the science fiction miniseries Frank Herbert's Children of Dune.

The actor has what it takes to play James Bond, but could he also be best portrayed as one of the Bond villains instead?

Martin Compston - 66/1

The Line of Duty star comes in at 66/1 for his possible next career move into the world of 007 - which would be quite the step-up from 'nicking bent coppers'.

The ITV Our House star is currently out filming for a BBC Scotland documentary called Scottish Fling.

But we'd put a bet that the Scot would drop everything to possibly be the next James Bond!

David Tennant - 66/1

Doctor Who turned 007? (Daily Record)

Bathgate-born David is most notable for his role as the tenth Doctor in Doctor Who, and also had a cameo appearance in the Harry Potter franchise as Barty Crouch Junior.

The actor had his talents recognised back in 2015 for his commitment to the industry at the NTA Awards - but could 007 be the Scot's next big adventure?

Ewan McGregor - 66/1

Th-that's Obi-Wan Kenobi! (Daily Record)

Hello there! Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor is notable for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the hit fantasy franchise, and has many other acting performances to his name.

Some of these include new film Pinocchio, Moulin Rouge!, the Nanny McPhee franchise and absolute classic, 2005 animated film Robots as Rodney Copperbottom.

Could McGregor be the answer to the James Bond conundrum?

Gerard Butler - 50/1

Could Gerard be the next 007, and not the 'butler'? (NME)

Gerard has already been involved in the Bond franchise, playing Leading Seaman #1 in Pierce Brosnan's 007 film Tomorrow Never Dies.

But could he be next in line to take up the lead role?

Gerard certainly has the actor backbone able to play Bond, with the likes of London Has Fallen, The Bounty Hunter and 300 under his belt.

Karen Gillan - 50/1

The first Scottish, female 007? (Wikipedia)

First getting her fame in Doctor Who as companion Amy Pond alongside Matt Smith, Karen has went from strength to strength in acting.

Her most famous role is the portrayal of Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (although you would never have guessed it is her under all the blue and purple paint!)

She is in at 50/1 on the odds, so could we have a first Scottish, female James Bond?

Sam Heughan - 16/1

He already has the good looks down! (Daily Record)

The odds slash considerably now with Outlander star Sam Heughan - who has been quite the stand-out star from the Scottish fantasy series.

Sam has also starred in River City as Andrew Murray, and in BBC One show Doctors as Scott Neilson.

Could the rugged Jamie Fraser be the next 007?

Richard Madden - 10/1

Madden has the best odds by far. (Submitted)

And here is the best odds for a Scottish James Bond! Richard Madden is up there with the likes of Idris Elba and Tom Hardy in terms of the best bet for the next 007.

Richard is best known for his portrayal as Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, but other notable acts include Rocketman, 1917, and Bodyguard.

He also has a background in theatre, performing in plays like Romeo and Juliet, Be Near Me and Tom Fool.

So, could Madden shape up to be the next best British spy?
