Avengers directors the Russo brothers have confirmed that Secret Wars will begin filming very soon. The duo are currently working on Avengers: Doomsday, but they revealed the pressure is mounting to start work on their next Marvel movie.
Asked about when filming starts by Collider, Anthony Russo replied: "Soon. So soon it makes us sweat a little bit."
He also gave an update on where they're currently at with Doomsday. "We're deep into finishing the movie, into finishing Doomsday," he continued. "All of the grace notes, the music, working with Alan Silvestri, sound mix, creating Alan's incredible original music. Wait until you experience what he's cooked up for Doom. That, and then we're prepping. We're prepping Secret Wars. So, it's a complicated time in our lives, but thrilling."
Avengers: Secret Wars has a release date of December 17, 2027 and there have been rumblings for a while that filming on the movie is set to kick off this summer. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has been clear that they've purposefully not put any films in the release schedule between the two movies.
"A lot of it is a strategy we've talked about for a while, of focusing on quality," Feige told Empire magazine at San Diego Comic-Con. "We always try to focus on quality, but when quantity is so much, you get spread thin. We didn't want to be spread thin, and the Avengers is as important as it comes."
