If you’re planning a trip to Blackpool beach this summer then it’s important to be aware of the rules which are in place to help keep the beach clean and safe for everyone to enjoy. Here are some of the things you need to know when you’re visiting Blackpool.
Are dogs allowed?
Owners need to keep their dogs on a lead on the promenade at all times between North and South Piers and in any area specified where there is no physical barrier between the highway or the tram track and the promenade.
Between May 1 and September 30 dogs are not allowed on the beach at all between the North Pier and The Mirror Ball opposite the Solaris Centre.
Dogs are allowed on the beaches from The Solaris to Squires Gate (South) and from North Pier to Anchorsholme (North). In these areas owners are advised to keep their dogs on a lead or if they are off lead, to have full control with reliable recall.
Can you drink alcohol on the beach?
You cannot bring glass bottles, or other glass products, on the beach. Drinking alcohol on the beach is also prohibited unless it’s within licensed premises.
Can you swim?
Swimming is allowed at Blackpool beach but people are advised to take certain precautions in order to stay safe. Swimmers are warned not to use dinghies and inflatables as they can be blown out to sea.
People should not swim within 50m of the piers and stay within their depth and capabilities. Parents are advised to supervise their children at all times and stay in the water with them.
You shouldn’t swim if: you’ve just eaten, if you’ve drunk alcohol, if it’s dark or if the water is very cold. If you’re unsure about swimming check with the beach patrol.
When can you visit the beach?
The beach is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It’s completely free to visit.
