The rules for parking in Swansea's Parc Tawe south are changing - again

Parc Tawe Retail Park's south car park is reducing its parking for customers from three hours to two, but the company that runs the park has stressed the change is being introduced for good reason.

As of September 5, the car park terms and conditions will be changing, in an announcement made by Eternity Security Limited, which will be taking over the management of the Swansea car park from Alliance Parking. However, the changes to the maximum stay can still be extended by using kiosks within shops and attractions, such as Odeon, where a longer stay will be needed in order to watch the full duration of the film.

The places where you'll be able to extend your stay through providing your car registration number on arrival are Tenpin, Odeon, Treatz, Denny's, India India, Kitchen Haus, Ninja Warrior UK, Plantasia, Flashpoint and Costa Coffee. Get Swansea stories straight to your inbox with our newsletter.

Centurion Tawe Ltd owns the retail park, and has been behind its revival, filling its half empty units with big names such as Aldi, Ninja Warrior UK, Flashpoint, Sports Direct and Barnardo's, with even more expected to be introduced going forward. The change in time limit is being deemed necessary as with the new attractions it has become busier, and customers to businesses have been unable to park as a result of those using the car park and instead visiting the city centre. A spokesman for Centurion Tawe Ltd said: "The priority for the car park is for the customers of Parc Tawe. Visitors have been unable to park to visit the tenants due to the car parking capacity being exceeded. Priority has to be given to visitors of the retail park and with this in mind a decision has been made to increase the turnover of traffic by reducing the free parking from three hours down to two.

"If you are visiting the retail park and you are a bona fide customer of the retail park, by using our parking management software you can park for free for up to 12 hours."

Alliance Parking stirred up controversy surrounding changes over the parking system at Parc Tawe in November when a new parking system reduced the amount of time people could park there to a two-hour limit, down from four hours. A system had been in place for customers to provide their registration plate details in order to get a longer stay, but in many cases, it was claimed that the system failed to work correctly, and people were still receiving fines even though they registered their car. Alliance Parking sent parking fine letters out to customers who claimed they followed the system and provided their car registration details on arrival, starting at £60, rising to £100, then £160. The allotted free parking time was later increased to three hours after a backlash from customers.

Discussing the change in the management of car park from Alliance Parking to Eternity Security Limited, the spokesman added: "In line with best practice we competitively tender the contracts periodically and we tendered and appointed Eternity to manage our car park going forward."
