The Royle Family and Emmerdale star Peter Martin dies aged 82 as fans issue tributes

Tributes have flooded in after Peter Martin died aged 82.

The actor is renowned for his portrayal of Joe Carroll in the hit BBC sitcom, The Royle Family. He was also known for his role as Len Reynolds in Emmerdale as he played the character in the fictional Yorkshire village from 2001 - 2007.

His death was confirmed by a friend on Facebook who issued a heartfelt tribute. He said: "My friend, drinking partner, fishing buddy passed away on Wednesday morning, very sad, many of you will know him from TV. RIP Peter Martin, we had some great laughs."

Fans have taken to Twitter to share tributes after the sad news.

Katie said: "Peter Martin has died now! Loved him in the royal family what a rubbish 2023 already"

Steven added: "Aw gutted to hear about Peter Martin (Joe in the Royle Family) he didn’t have that big a part or spoke many words but he was hilarious when on screen. Good singer aswell"

Barbara commented: "Absolutely devastated to hear the news of the passing of this legend Peter Martin AKA Len Reynolds in Classic Emmedale"
