The road closures in Swansea city centre for Spooks in the City you need to know about

Swansea's Castle Square is to become very spooky indeed this weekend as a popular Halloween event for the whole family makes its return. Spooks in the City will be held on Saturday, October 29, and will see ghoulish characters walking around the city centre.

The event will be free, and will feature music, glitter tattoos, theatrical-make-up, pumpkins and gory props, offering some brilliant photo opportunities and craft workshops. There will also be plenty of competitions for best costume, best scream and scariest face.

The event will culminate in a pumpkin parade at 3pm, and you'll be invited to join witches, ghouls and other characters being led by samba drummers as they parade around the city centre, assembling at Castle Square at 2.55pm. Those who take part are being told to wear their spookiest costume, and all children who do get involved must be accompanied by a responsible adult. To accommodate the parade, being run by Swansea Council Events Team, several roads in the city centre will be closed temporarily between 3pm and 3.30pm. This will be on a rolling basis from Castle Square via Oxford Street, Plymouth Street, Nelson Street, Union Street and Oxford Street, returning to and concluding at Castle Square. Roads will be closed to vehicular traffic as per the plan, but access for emergency vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times.

Swansea Council cabinet member, Robert Francis-Davies, said: “Castle Square will be transformed for Spooks in the City in line with the Halloween theme. The activities will have a family-friendly feel and will help generate footfall to provide a boost for local traders. The event will be free, which is welcome at a time when so many people are encountering financial challenges.

“This is one of a number of events planned for the city centre in the build-up to Christmas as we look to make it a place that people want to visit, stay and enjoy.”
