The new BBC TV show Freeze the Fear is set to introduce the British public to Dutch extreme athlete Wim Hof.
Dubbed The Iceman, Hof is known for his extreme feats of endurance in dealing with cold and freezing temperatures and for developing the Wim Hof Method, which uses cold therapy, breathing, and meditation to help improve people's lives and wellbeing.
The new show, which features Wim alongside hosts Holly Willoughby and Lee Mack, sees eight celebrities embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in the Italian mountains in sub-zero conditions.
Those looking to embark on their own Wim Hof-inspired adventure can now head to Highlands to one of the most remote lodges in Scotland to enjoy the 'UK's first Wim Hof method masterclass retreat'.
Run by the travel firm Sandgrouse, the unique wilderness retreat sees guests taken from Inverness Airport and driven into the Highlands to stay at one of the UK's most remote homes, Deanich Lodge.
Running from October to April, the retreats are led by a Qualified Wim Hof Method Instructor, Allan Brownlie, and take place on the picturesque 23,000 acre Alladale Wilderness Reserve, where the journey will begin with a 7-mile hike to Deanich Lodge.
A spokesperson for Sandgrouse said: "Join us on the UK's first dedicated Wim Hof Method retreat. You will hike straight through the dramatic Glen Mor, making your way together to what feels like the end of the world!"
Each participant will then take part in the Wim Hof Method workshop where they will take part in ice baths in the meltwater of a fast-flowing burn on the estate and learn how to engage in cold-body therapy.
The team say those taking part will enjoy feeling "energised and full of life within minutes", learn how to lower their heart rate, banish stress and engage in deep focus meditation.
