The remarkable Scotland vs Hungary referee red card stat

Scotland know they must go to battle with Hungary and triumph tonight - but they should be very wary of how they approach it.

Match referee, Facundo Tello, is the sole non-UEFA referee at Euro 2024 and he's famously known for handing out ten red cards in one game.

The Argentinian official was taking charge of a cup final involving Boca Juniors and Racing Club in his homeland two years ago and the clash ended up abandoned due to the sheer number of dismissals.

There is no doubt that passion will be on show between both teams at the Stuttgart Arena this evening with lots at stake in the final Group A fixtures.

And they will need to be aware that Tello isn't afraid to banish a card.

Portugal's World Cup stars Bruno Fernandes and Pepe previously  accused Tello of bias following their unexpected 1-0 defeat to Morocco in Qatar.

That criticism came just a month after Tello's controversial issuing of ten red cards.

Fernandes branded it "unacceptable" for an Argentinian referee to officiate while Argentina was still in the competition. He also questioned Tello's qualifications, noting that he had never officiated in the Champions League.

The Manchester United midfielder argued that referees without such experience are "not used to this type of game."
