A psychologist has shared her thoughts on why Love Island star Gemma Owen is so "rude".
The international dressage rider, who is the daughter of England football legend Michael Owen, has caused quite a stir since she entered the Majorcan villa on Monday night.
Gemma, 19, mocked fellow contestant Luca Bish's surname during the first episode of the ITV2 reality dating show, and she failed to hide her dislike for his moniker when she screwed up her face during a discussion with him and a few other islanders.
Fans have not been happy with the young influencer during her short time on the show so far, who have labelled her "rude" and "nasty" - and she's been slammed by former Love Island contestants Marcel Somerville, Amber Gill, and Chloe Burrows.
They've also been wound up by her attitude towards Liam Llewellyn, who she was initially paired with, before moving on to Italian Stallion, Davide.
But psychologist Emma Kenny reckons her attitude is all to do with her sports background and success in business, as writes Birmingham Live.
Explaining all to the Sun newspaper, she said: “Gemma will be relatively confident because she has been involved in equestrian dressage for years and she has had her own business.
“It is also relevant that she comes from a celebrity family, so she has been brought up with a front facing experience which means she might appear assertive and confident on one level because she knows how to present herself.”
Fans have blasted Gemma for being rude to co-stars.
Liam, a 22-year-old student from Newport, found himself matched with Gemma at first but now Gemma is with Davide, after the Italian newcomer arrived at the end of Monday's launch.
However on last night's episode, viewers were stunned when Gemma performed a U-turn after blasting Luca's quirky name, and admitted she wanted to "get to know" the Brighton fishmonger better.
Luca, who has revealed Gemma has more than caught his eye despite being matched with Paige, had a flirty conversation with her during Thursday night's episode, leaving viewers to speculate what could happen next.
Yesterday we reported Gemma 's family have reportedly been trying to save her career behind the scenes after she received backlash.
Following the negative comments, Gemma's relatives and famous football star dad are working behind the scenes to try and boost her profile by the time she leaves the villa.
They have decided to have her signed up to the specialist PR agency which looks after former finalist Maura Higgins, 31, to boost her image.
After just three days in the villa, Off Limits Entertainment is now on board to look after Gemma’s image once she departs the show.
The agency already advises some of Love Island’s most successful stars including Maura, Shaughna Phillips, 28, Chris Hughes, 29, and Georgia Steel, 24.
It also looks after former boxers Amir Khan, 35, and Carl Froch, 44, and X Factor and I’m a Celebrity… contestant Jake Quickenden, 33.
