The Rangers ace who will be 'massive' at Ibrox after beating clubs to sign him

Iain Dowie reckons Rangers summer signing Dan Neil can be a "massive" player for the club.

The former Ipswich Town and Sunderland star joined Derek McInnes' side in pre-season and was considered a top acquisition for the Ibrox outfit.

Neil, 24, had a number of suitors this window including Southampton and Dowie felt the Light Blues did a great bit of business in convincing the Englishman north of the border.

And assessing his chances of success in the Scottish Premiership, Dowie is sure the playmaker has the talents and skills to thrive in Glasgow.

"Dan Neil is a massive signing for Rangers," Dowie told BettingLounge. "He brings energy, desire, and hunger to the club, along with plenty of experience.

"Losing out on him to a Scottish Premiership side is a big blow for Southampton, as they would have considered themselves favourites to sign him.

"Their manager has done an amazing job, but this will be a significant setback for them. Dan Neil is a good captain with great leadership qualities.

"If he starts alongside Lawrence Shankland, I think that will make a huge difference, in my opinion. It's a great acquisition for Rangers."
