The Pitt season 2 isn't even cold yet, but The Pitt season 3 is already causing a ruckus among fans. While star and executive producer Noah Wyle confirmed that scripts were in development at the launch event for HBO Max UK, we've already had a shock cast departure.
Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Samira Mohan) will not be returning for the third season, with Wyle explaining at PaleyFest [via ScreenRant], “It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically. Emergency rooms have a high revolving door.
"As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh, but obviously, Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning.”
Naturally, that's made me worried for all of my other favorites (except Ayesha Harris, whose character, Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to series regular). But after speaking to Fiona Dourif, I'm pretty sure that Cassie McKay is a safe bet to return.
'I just feel extraordinarily lucky to be here'
"Cassie wants to roll until the wheels fall off, I'll tell you that," Dourif says. "I think it is shocking how fun The Pitt is to shoot. Not every TV show is like that. It really runs like a machine in the best way.
"It's rare in Hollywood to get to shoot something in Los Angeles with every department head having worked in the business for 35 od years. It's a really expertly made show, and because of that, it's just very fun to work on. I feel very, extraordinarily lucky."
If that isn't a subtle plea to return for The Pitt season 3, I don't know what is. But if we look at Cassie's journey across season 2, she has a professional alliance that would make her return to season 3 particularly juicy.
"I think it's interesting that Cassie just reports to Robby [Wyle]. I think that there's some suspicion having to do with her age and skillset in the hospital, which is much more like one-on-one with patients, as opposed to technical," Dourif continues.
"I think Cassie is a good doctor, but I think what she really excels in is being able to connect with different patients personally. And Al-Hashimi [Sepideh Moafi] represents an intrusion of technology and a different way of doing things that might result in distance from that personal time. Though she does pitch the tech as giving medics more time for that.
"But I definitely think it's interesting where her sole reporting goes."
Could new drama be on the horizon? Will Robbie return from his sabbatical? And can AI actually revolutionize the ER? So many questions that we need The Pitt season 3 stat.
