As the Persona series turns 30 and we finally have confirmation of Persona 6, Atlus has revealed that the Persona series has sold over 30 million copies.
The day has finally arrived – Atlus has announced Persona 6 and, sure, the publisher proceeded to show us absolutely nothing about the game, but now we have official word that the game actually exists following some art seemingly leaking online last week (which has been inadvertently strengthened by the game's official logo). For now though, all eyes are on Persona 4 Revival which finally got a release date of February 18, 2027, alongside a new trailer which confirms it'll be a remake of Persona 4 Golden, avoiding Persona 3 Reload's approach of remaking the base game.
Alongside its dual announcements, Atlus released a new piece of artwork featuring Persona 4 protagonist Yu Narukami to announce that the series' 30th anniversary has coincidentally coincided with the series selling over 30 million units. The Atlus Twitter account adds, "Thank you to everyone who has supported us – we wouldn't be here without you!"

Notably, Persona 5 is unsurprisingly responsible for a huge chunk of that. Back in 2023 – around the time Persona 5 Tactica released – Atlus confirmed that the "Persona 5 series" which consists of Persona 5, Royal, Dancing in Starlight, Strikers, and Tactica, had sold over 10 million copies. More recent numbers confirm Persona 5 Royal alone has passed seven million sales, on top of the 3.2 million sales that base Persona 5 sold by the end of 2019. And, undoubtedly, the spinoffs have sold even more in the years since, too.
So, the next time you ask "why is Persona 5 still being milked by Atlus" (and somehow don't remember how much Persona 4 was milked beforehand), that's probably why.
