Two Bristolians have shared their reasons for not paying their energy bills later this year. They will be joining the "Don't Pay" campaign, a national movement against the rise in energy bills.
The group is demanding a reduction in energy bills and, if ignored, they are saying they will cancel their direct debits from October 1 - when the new price cap will come into effect. Inflation in the UK has hit 10.1 per cent, with food and non-alcoholic drinks being the largest contributors to rising prices last month.
At the same time, while current energy price cap sits at £1,971, experts at Cornwall Insight predict a jump to £3,582 in October, followed by a rise to £4,266 in January. Phil Pope described the current situation as ridiculous, saying he doesn't feel the government is doing anything meaningful.
