Re your report (Deaths from disease in Gaza could outstrip deaths from war, UN says, 28 November), I have written twice to the United Nations secretary general pointing to the intrinsic merits of a UN protection force, Unprofor, being established very quickly to ensure medicines, food and water in desperately short supply are delivered to points accessible to Gaza families.
The precedent was established in September 1992 by a UN security council resolution covering the developing humanitarian crisis in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The British and French ambassadors to the UN in New York should be holding urgent consultations over the next few days with a view to tabling the necessary resolution.
