The Open Golf 2022: When does it start, TV channel and odds

Golf's oldest major returns this week, with the iconic Old Course at St Andrews hosting the famous tournament for the first time since 2015.

This year sees the 150th edition of the tournament and it remains the only major golf tournament hosted in the UK with some major home hopes vying to lift the famous Claret Jug. Tommy Fleetwood from Southport will be eyeing his first major championship as he takes to the course. Alongside him the in-form tournament favourite and 2014 Open Championship winner Rory McIlroy will also be hoping to secure a first major win in eight years.

England's Matthew Fitzpatrick, who won the US Open last month and will be hoping to continue the form that won him his first career major. Meanwhile, US stars such as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas will also play alongside three time open winner Tiger Woods.

The tournament is being played under the shadow of the ongoing Saudi-backed LIV Golf breakaway, which has seen a number of players in trouble with the PGA Tour for participating in. The stars playing on the new tour have all been permitted to play in the Open, as the breakaway continues to seek world ranking recognition.

Here is the schedule for the upcoming British Open.
