The famed Old Course at St Andrews will see a host of the world's best golfers descend upon its iconic links for the 2022 British Open Championship this week.
The tournament is the only home major for Britain's golfing stars and players like Southport's Tommy Fleetwood will be hoping that they can finally produce a home Open Championship winner for the first time since Rory McIlroy won in 2014. The Northern Irishman has been in good form this year, playing well at the US Open and getting himself up to rank No. 2 in the world.
Home hopes will also come in the form of England's Matthew Fitzpatrick, who won the US Open last month and will be hoping to continue the form that won him his first career major. US stars such as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas will also play alongside three time open winner Tiger Woods.

However, the tournament is being played under the shadow of the ongoing Saudi-backed LIV Golf breakaway, which has seen a number of players in trouble with the PGA Tour for participating in. The stars playing on the new tour have all been permitted to play in the Open, as the breakaway continues to seek world ranking recognition.
