The One Show’s Alex Jones called presenting duo Ant and Dec "beyond a joke" after seeing a clip of their upcoming prank on Alison Hammond. The Geordie duo chatted to Alex and co-host Ronan Keating on the BBC One teatime show ahead of the return of ITV's Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend.
During the interview, Ant and Dec talked about which celebrities they have coming up on this series. First up is This Morning host Alison Hammond who features in an Undercover prank and is made to believe that a hotel she's staying at is haunted.
Talking to Ant and Dec, Alex said: "What we love is pranks. This time, Alison Hammond gets it. I mean, I love Alison but you two are beyond a joke." The BBC One show then aired a clip of the prank, which showed an unwitting Alison continually trying to leave the "haunted" hotel.
Alison could be heard saying: "It's so haunted. Get me out of here! I'm not staying here," before producers tell a worried-looking Ant and Dec that the presenter is actually in a car ready to head home.
The crew manages to get Alison back into the hotel and the clip ends with the host screaming. Back in the studio with Alex and Ronan, Ant said: "I actually feel a little sorry for her watching that now."
"These pranks are so high risk, aren’t they?" Ronan asked as Dec said: "That is the one that nearly went absolutely haywire. The hotel was supposed to be an overnight stay and she got as far as reception and went, 'I'm not staying here. This place is too spooky.'
"She got out, got in the car, and said, 'Take me home'. We then said, 'She can't go home! We've hooked the whole place up and we've got hidden cameras everywhere."
Ant explained: "We had to ring the producer from This Morning and we said, 'Get her in for a drink at least' and then we could try and get her to stay at the hotel. We then called her driver and told him, 'There's another job for you down the road', just to get him away so she didn't have a car to go to. We had to do anything we could to keep her there."
"You have to think on your feet the whole time, it's like live really isn't it," Alex asked, before Dec admitted: "That's the one [prank] that nearly didn't happen, that's the closest it's been to falling apart"
"There's genuine panic in our faces when you watch it," Ant added. The pair also spoke about the 2023 I'm A Celebrity…Get Out Of Me Ear! sketches with Claudia Winkleman and Joe Wicks.
On Claudia, Dec said: "She was amazing and it was a bit different because we take her out of a home environment and put her in IKEA." The pair then added that Joe was hard to lock down but they "wouldn't take no for an answer" and eventually got him on the show.
