The Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti has finally been confirmed at the GeForce Beyond CES 2023 live stream and the price is a pleasant surprise.
After tons of leaks over the weekend, Nvidia has finally announced its RTX 4070 Ti, confirming the price and release dates. Although we don't have official information about specifications just yet, Nvidia accidentally shared specifications on its website over the weekend giving us something on which to base our assumptions. If they are correct then this RTX 4070 Ti will be a repackage of the RTX 4080 12GB which was unlaunched late last year.
At the Nvidia CES 2023 live stream, the company announced that the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti will be released this week on Thursday, January 5. It will be retailing for $799, which was clarified in the live stream to be a starting price meaning different iterations will likely cost more. This is $100 cheaper than the RTX 4080 12GB's original retail price. We don't have any confirmation of prices across regions, and this can be hard to predict since Nvidia typically doesn't follow any structure but a straight conversion brings it to £666 / AU$1,186.
Nvidia has also stated that the new graphics card will be 'faster than 3090 Ti' and also use a 'fraction of the power'. As we don't have confirmed specifications just yet, we can't say for sure if this will ring true. Based on the leaked specs – which matched those of the RTX 4080 12GB – the card won't be more powerful than the 3090 Ti. This is something I'm excited to benchmark when I have the chance.
Is it time to retire my 1060?
No, that's not a joke. I've been rocking an RTX 1060 for years now and no graphics card has felt good enough value for money to convince me to upgrade. However, with the confirmation of the RTX 4070 Ti retailing at $799, and the AMD 7900 series coming in at a beautiful price point last month, it feels like the era of selling your house for a PC may finally be coming to an end.
I've been thinking about upgrading my set-up for a long time, and with prices coming down for graphics cards that are supposedly more powerful than their more expensive predecessors, it might finally be the time.
For reference, the RTX 3090 Ti, which Nvidia is claiming will be outmatched in speed by this new RTX 4070 Ti, retailed for $1999 when it was first released. As there were such intense stock issues for the 30 series as a whole, some retailers were selling it for even more than this. This made it feel impossible for many gamers, including me, to ever upgrade.
This new graphics card era will give people the option to pick up the latest generation of graphics cards for less, and honestly, I couldn't be happier.
