Today's edition of the Nottinghamian welcomes back Goose Fair as it returns for the first time in two years. We take a look at everything happening the first day and see what's on offer at the ten-day event.
We will also discuss the opening of a street food hall in Sneinton Market and have a look back at all the businesses who have set up shop in Nottingham during 2022 so far.
Opening day
Roll up, roll up, Goose Fair is officially open after a three-year absence - and this time for 10 days. The colourful, spectacular event has returned to the Forest Recreation Ground, bringing rides, games and all our favourite funfair food and drink. Exciting new white knuckle rides for 2022 include Void and and UK's newest loop fighter Red Devil.
Showmen across the country have set up at the site including Lauren and Presley Cook, who have travelled from Manchester with their 10-week-old daughter Lavanna to run their darts stall. Presley said: "I’m fifth or sixth generation showman. It runs in our blood." Lauren added: "Ten days will give people more chance to come down if they’re at work. It’s just like one big family here. You get a real buzz when everyone is busy. It’s one of the best fairs in the country."
Generations of the Warwick family from Mansfield have visited the fair with rides and food stalls. William, 19, is running the Storm ride with his father William Snr. He said: "We’ve been coming forever. This is the closest fair to us and probably means the most. We want to impress."
One tradition that never changes is mushy peas and mint sauce. Terry Burdett now runs the stall his father Alf and friend William Pike started at the fair in 1946. He’s glad to be back but disappointed by the rain. This year's pot of peas will cost £2.50. Read all the updates from the fair here.
Tasty treat
Street food fans are in for a treat with the opening of Nottingham's Bustler Market - which welcomed customers for the first time today. The award-winning Derby venture has branched out to open in a second location over the border and there couldn't be a better setting than one of the avenues at Sneinton Market.
It's cool, quirky and outdoor - but with the option to sit inside too. Some of the UK's best street food traders will be heading for a pitch at the "raw and refined industrial" setting on Avenue E. One of the units at the former fruit and vegetable market has been transformed with capacity for 500 inside (around 250 seats) and a further 300 outside.
Founder Olivia Pritchard hopes to build on the success Bustler Market has had in Derby at the Chocolate Factory. She said: "We are really lucky with the traders we get coming down here. We've got really great relationships with some of the UK's top ones. Many have won different street food awards and we're really proud to be able to have that."
Sustainability has also been a large driving factor which means a cashless bar, LED-only lights, and recycled glasses and packaging to maintain as small a carbon footprint as possible. This weekend will welcome Prad Thai, Kebab Cartel, Yardbirds' fried chicken, El Capo's Pizza and, for sweet-toothed foodies, the Bournville Waffle Co. Opening hours will be Thursday from 5pm to 10pm, Friday 5pm to 11pm, Saturday noon to 11pm and Sunday 2pm to 6pm. Read more here.

If you fancy a bit of soul with your steak then Soulville is the place. The family-favourite restaurant offers traditional American and English dishes at reasonable prices. The atmosphere gives a unique experience as it is all centred around soul and Motown. Soulville can transport diners to the southern states of the USA, whilst being in the centre of Nottingham.
From a scooter in the window to black and white tiled floors and framed soul singers on the walls, the restaurant fully leads into the theme. There is even a jukebox playing classic songs. The menu is varied with a wide selection for everyone from children to vegetarians.
Everyday between 12 till 6pm (4pm Saturdays) certain main courses cost £10.00 and starters and desserts priced at £3.50. If it is too hard to choose, diners can get all three courses for £15.95. As the name suggests, there are plenty of steak options but also pasta dishes, chicken meals and burgers too.
Latest additions
Nottingham has an amazing selection of shops, restaurants and bars which make it a great city to spend time in. But over the past few months there has been a new wave of businesses to open. So far this year, we have had lots of independent stores, markets, world-famous restaurants and quirky shops open across the city centre and further afield.
