The Northern Irish chippies ranked among best in the UK at 2023 food awards

Five Northern Irish chippies have been named as some of the best in the UK at the Good Food Awards for Fish and Chips 2023.

Establishments in Co Antrim, Belfast and Co Down have topped the list at this year's awards, being recognised amount the biggest names in the industry from every corner of the UK.

The Good Food Awards said: "Whether you are looking for a quick snack or a tasty fish supper, then look no further. Our Award-Winning Fish & Chip Shops / Restaurants have been hand-picked to be among the best in their field."

Chosen for their food quality, service and value, the Fish and Chip awards are given to those with high customer ratings and votes and receive 'Blue Ribbon for Delicious Dishes'.

The NI chippies recognised at this year's Good Food Awards for Fish and Chips are:

Mortons of Ballycastle

The fresh fish shop and the fish and chip shop trade alongside each other in the harbour area of Ballycastle. Mortons' fish are caught locally when possible or obtained from fishermen at the fishing ports of Greencastle in Donegal and Portavogie in County Down.

The Chippie Antrim

An award-winning fish and chip shop located on Railway Street in Antrim town centre. They are open seven days a week and also offer a delivery service.

John Long's Belfast

The longest-established fish and chip shop in Belfast, John Long’s is considered among the city’s "top wonders". The people of Belfast have been visiting John Long's for their fish supper for 100 years and they use the best fresh fish, light and crispy batter and Maris Piper potatoes.

Fish City Belfast

Fish City in the heart of Belfast city centre is an award-winning, sustainable fish and chip restaurant that sources produce from local farms and fisheries. It is a "rustic-chic seafood spot with nautical flair" and is known for its outdoor terrace space.
