There is a question mark over where Mark Carney will choose to live in his new role as Prime Minister of Canada. He now has three official residences at his disposal (in Ottawa, Montreal and Harrington Lakes) but his predecessor, Justin Trudeau, has called for a new official residence to be built given the “terrible condition” of the principle home, 24 Sussex.
This is not a problem Carney faced when he moved to London with his family to take up the role as Governor of the Bank of England in 2013. He was dubbed the ‘rockstar banker’, less due to any wild antics than thanks to his generous remuneration package, amounting to £883,911, and making him one of the highest paid central bankers in the world.
