The Patriots lost at home to the Bengals on Saturday and now they should lose their quarterback, Mac Jones, for their Week 17 game for what he did late in their loss to Cincinnati.
In case you missed it, Jones went low on Bengals DB Eli Apple during what looked like a fumble recovery by Cincinnati. The refs whistled the play dead, however, ruling that it was an intentional grounding by Jones.
The play by Jones made absolutely no sense, as Apple was well behind the returner and didn’t need to be taken out the way Jones took him out.
Watch the play and judge for yourself:
Not sure about this move from Mac Jones. pic.twitter.com/NlXdkknko8

What was Jones trying to accomplish there? That’s just a dirty play and he should be suspended for it by the NFL.
On Monday we learned from reports that the league is investigating the hit and could fine Jones but a suspension doesn’t seem to be on the table.
#Patriots QB Mac Jones will be evaluated by the NFL for a possible fine for his low hit on #Bengals CB Eli Apple, but not a suspension, per me and @TomPelissero. This will be reviewed in the normal fine timetable.

That’s trash from the NFL. A suspension needs to be on the table because he very easily could have injured Apple with that ugly hit. Also, these dirty plays by Jones are becoming a thing and they need to be stopped.
Look at these four dirty plays he’s done so far in his brief career:

These types of plays can’t keep happening. The second-year QB deserves a harsh penalty but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen, unfortunately.
Lots of NFL fans blasted Jones and called for the QB to be suspended.
Yes. The NFL should suspend Mac Jones. He should not be anywhere near Gillette next week. Patriots fans are onboard here https://t.co/3Q2ANaqYWa

Hey @MacJones_10 you’re a scumbag.
Intentionally rolling Brian Burns last year wasn’t a fluke, you’re just trash.@NFL please suspend this clown or at least don’t suspend defenders when they “handle” this issue themselves. https://t.co/l2oCwLRvG4

There has never been a more spot on comparison made than the one @Realrclark25 made about Mac Jones being the #Nfl version of Grayson Allen. I’m a diehard Pats fan too. Suspend him for life. He gotta go
