The Newark housing estate next to a busy dual carriageway that families love

Families say they love living on a housing estate next to the A1 and it's a great place to live. Residents on the estate on the outskirts of Coddington, Newark, love their homes despite being so close to the dual carriageway.

The estate is full of families and friendly neighbours, and despite being so close to the A1 nobody has issues with noise. Retired, Ross Tooley, 73, has been living on the estate since 2018.

He and his wife Jean moved to the estate so that they could be nearer to family, and enjoy living there. Ross said: "The main reason we moved was our son and it it is handy for the A1 but not so handy for town.

"We get more noise from the play park which we are quite happy with. One of the benefits is that we have really good neighbours, it's a really neighbourly area.

"We have our own Facebook page which is quite handy, so people can put things on there." Earlier this year the estate had a big street party for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, and Ross says everyone was out celebrating all day until about 10pm.

Recruitment consultant, Amy Bevan, 22, moved to the estate from Lincoln a few months ago. When asked what it's like living next to the busy road, she said: "To be fair we don't really hear it. We moved here in February and we did think how is it going to be here but we don't really hear anything, it's not noisy or anything."

Amy added: "Everyone is really nice and if you need anything there's a Facebook page, and someone will always help. It's really nice, we've not had any problems.

When asked her favourite part about the estate, Amy said: "Probably the house, it's our first house together and we are just really happy with the house and it's a nice quiet area and we have the close links off the A1. It's close to Newark without being in the centre."

Signaller, Paul Bryan, 40, moved to the estate in 2017 as he was after a new build and wanted to get on to the housing ladder. Paul said: "The entire community itself is very good, I set up a community Facebook page which pretty much everyone on the estate is on now.

"We all help each other, especially during the pandemic we all helped each other out." Paul says he can't really hear the A1 from his home, but he "wouldn't want to be any closer".

"You can hear at times depending on the way the wind is blowing, you kind of get used to the noise." When asked his favourite part about living on the estate, Paul said: "just the community feel, it's really great."

Mum, Chloe Coles, 24, was one of the first people to move onto the estate in late 2016 when houses first became available. She said: "My mum only lives ten minutes down the road and I saw them building houses. It was just all fields before this was here.

"It's near to town and close to my mum so it's the perfect location, and it's mostly families here and I've got two little ones.

"Everyone is quite friendly and everyone knows everyone." When asked about the A1, Amy said: "No it doesn't bother me, I can hardly hear anything."
