Thanks by and large to Reading's points deduction this season, Cardiff City head to champions-elect Burnley on Monday with nothing riding on the game for either side.
While that might be the case for the team as a whole, there are some players who still have something to play for. They will still have points to prove or contracts to nail down. For them, it's not a dead rubber after all.
Sabri Lamouchi still has his all-important meeting with Vincent Tan coming up, so his own future is not completely sewn up, but he will still be planning for next season in the hope that talks go smoothly and he agrees a new deal.
While Cardiff are unlikely to completely rip up the team and field a load of youngsters, there are still changes that could be made in order for players to get more minutes or exposure or even prove they have a spot on the roster next term.
With Ryan Allsop still a doubt after his adductor injury, it is likely we will see Jak Alnwick between the sticks. Alnwick has had a rocky start to life in south Wales, having to play second fiddle and shipping a number of goals, but he will be keen to prove he can truly challenge for the No.1 shirt next season.
Cedric Kipre has been ruled out of this one, due to undergoing an operation on his mouth, meaning the back line will have to change anyway. Mahlon Romeo, Perry Ng and Mark McGuinness will likely be named in the defence, with the Clarets boasting a vaunted forward line. Cardiff need to have some stability in there to ensure the final game of the season doesn't end in a drubbing.
But it does offer scope for Joel Bagan to finally get his chance to start for only the second time in the league this season on the left-hand side of defence. Lamouchi has recommended to the board that the left back should get a new contract and this is the perfect opportunity to show the City decision-makers what he's all about.
Much has been made of Bagan's potential in recent years. Indeed, the purple patch of success he enjoyed just over a year ago when he scored three goals in as many games was thought to be something of a launchpad for him. But it's just not happened. With Jamilu Collins back from injury next season and Cardiff having already been linked with Fulham's Joe Bryan, who has been on the transfer shortlist for a number of transfer windows, it's time Bagan proved he is capable of one day being City's first-choice left-back.
Lamouchi has confirmed Bagan will travel to Burnley, so there is a likelihood that he will start. Eli King is also heading to Turf Moor and he could also be slotted into a midfield three. Another player who is spoken highly of behind the scenes at Cardiff, King is also out of contract and Lamouchi also wants him to stick around.
A metronomic midfielder who keeps things ticking over in midfield with the best engine in the entire squad — he won the bleep test during last year's pre-season — fans will want to see if his quality at under-21s level can translate to the senior side.
Andy Rinomhota and Romaine Sawyers have dipped in and out of both form and the team this season. But both have contracts next season and both have a bit of a point to prove, too. They are experienced and they would add a bit of nous next to the rookie, King.
And, ahead of them in the No.10 role, Rubin Colwill could be handed only his fourth league start of the season. Quite a remarkable figure, really, considering this season was meant to see him really elevate his standing within the squad. But injuries hampered his progress badly. It's been a stuttering season for the Wales international and not one he will look back fondly on.
But he has time and talent on his side. He will want to showcase said talent against the likes of Burnley to give supporters a glimpse of what a fully-fit Colwill can do next season. And played in his rightful position, too, not shoved out on the wing where he scarcely influences games. Colwill is at his best on the half turn, running at defences, with options either side and the goal ahead. Get him there and let him run free.
The front two is an interesting one. There is an argument to start Sory Kaba, as it's his last game and he will want to give the City fans a performance by which to remember him. But, with an eye on next season, the two logical options are Isaak Davies and Connor WIckham.
Davies, for many of the same reasons as Colwill, should start. Another player who didn't influence this season nearly as much as he would have liked due to injuries, but someone the club and many fans think highly of. His cameo against Huddersfield Town, including the backheeled goal, sent a timely reminder to those who had perhaps forgotten what he was all about.
Davies could play off Connor Wickham, making runs in behind and doing the lion's share of the pressing work. Lamouchi admitted he felt Wickham's short stint had been hit and miss, with top-quality performances coming few and far between.
The manager said conversations still need to be had over the forward's future and if there is any chance a contract will be tabled, then surely he must be afforded another chance to stake his claim against Burnley? Certainly many fans need some convincing, too.
It leaves room for the likes of Kaba and Jaden Philogene to be on the bench and potentially come on to impact the game if needs be. But there is an argument to suggest there is little value in playing them when the big picture is considered.
Perhaps Mark Harris, someone Lamouchi wants to keep at the club, could come on in the second half and maybe even Oliver Denham, who has also had a wretched season. Ebou Adams is also the obvious one to get a spot on the bench, with a potential first-team debut in the offing if it is deemed appropriate.
Kion Etete, Joe Ralls, Callum O'Dowda and Allsop are all doubts, but there is little to gain in risking any of them, anyway, seeing as though they have all featured so heavily, will all be involved next season and, crucially, Lamouchi knows what they all can offer.
But there are opportunities for the manager and his staff to glean a better insight into the players and even the system he wants to use next season...
Potential Cardiff City XI: Alnwick; Romeo, Ng, McGuinness, Bagan; Rinomhota, King, Sawyers; Colwill; Davies, Wickham.
Subs: Luthra, Denham, Wintle, Adams, Harris, Philogene, Kaba.
