Edinburgh has a long history of brewing and great beer, so it's only right that our pubs serve some of the best around.
And one bar, in particular, has been singled out for praise by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) over its excellent offering.
Thanks to its reputation for selling top-quality real ale, the much-loved Kay’s Bar, located on Jamaica Street in the New Town, has been awarded the local real ale experts' Quality Award for 2022.
CAMRA’s members provided beer quality scores during 2022 when visiting real ale pubs in Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders (of which there are over 300) and Kay’s came out top for its average score.

Other bars in the capital that came close with excellent scores but were just pipped out by Kay's included the Mitre on the Royal Mile and the Dreadnought in Leith.
The award presentation will be now made by the CAMRA branch chair, Pat Hanson, to the manager at Kay’s, Simon Fisher, at 8 pm on Thursday, January 19 at the popular pub.
On hearing the news of the award Kay’s landlord Fraser Gillespie said: “We are delighted with this recognition by CAMRA of our commitment to serving a range of quality real ales.”
The tiny Victorian bar, with its cosy interior, specialises in whisky and real ales, and is so popular it was named one of the cosiest in the capital by food critic Tom Parker Bowles and drinks columnist Olly Smith last year.
Thanking their customers, the team also posted on Facebook, writing: "We are really honoured and very grateful to all the CAMRA members that took the time to rate our efforts.
"It's much easier to serve a decent pint if you are selling them quickly, so it's down to all our fantastic customers too. Especially our regulars."
