The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has confirmed the most popular names that were given to baby boys and girls born in the UK last year - and there are a few differences between the top names chosen by parents in England and Wales. Whilst Noah and Olivia top the lists in both countries; Evie, Grace, Rosie, Theo, Charlie, Archie and Jack only made the top 10 list in Wales, whilst Harry, Henry, Mia and Florence only made the top 10 list in England, data released on Wednesday shows.
Interestingly, the boy's name Jack, which was the ninth most popular name for baby boys born in Wales last year, was knocked out of the top 10 in England for the first time since 1996, when the ONS began publishing data on the popularity of baby names.
But perhaps unsurprisingly, traditional Welsh names like Alys, Mali and Osian remain much more common in Wales than in England. Whilst Alys was the 38th most common girls' name in Wales last year, it ranked 883rd in England - whilst Mali was the 43rd most popular name for baby girls born in Wales last year but 1113rd in England. Osian placed equal 16th in the Welsh list but 690th in England.
