The Mortal Kombat 2 movie doesn't come out until next year, but Mortal Kombat 3 is already confirmed because the studios are 'convinced there's a giant fanbase waiting for it'

(L-R) Ludi Lin as “Liu Kang”, Mehcad Brooks as “Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs”, Jessica McNamee as “Sonya Blade”, and Karl Urban as “Johnny Cage” in New Line Cinema’s “Mortal Kombat II,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

As reported by Eurogamer and Deadline, a third entry in the new trilogy of Mortal Kombat movies has been announced at the New York Comic-Con. The second film, originally scheduled to release this month, is now slated for May 15, 2026.

"Our friends at New Line and Warner Bros. are so happy with this movie," series screenwriter Jeremy Slater said at a Mortal Kombat 2 panel at the New York Comic-Con. "They are so excited, they're so convinced there is a giant fanbase waiting for it, that they've already hired me to start writing the next instalment."
