'The message is clear' - Manchester United fans announce fresh Glazer protest ahead of Aston Villa

Manchester United supporter group The 1958 have announced plans for a mass protest against the Glazers this weekend.

The Glazer family have been subject to regular protests against their ownership since they acquired a majority stake at Old Trafford in 2005, and there are ongoing talks with Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe to sell the club.

The 1958 were responsible for a mostly peaceful protest against the Glazers in August when around 10,000 people marched to vent their anger at the Americans, and the group will protest again ahead of playing Aston Villa on Sunday.

United fans have been asked to join the protest, which starts at The Old Nags Head in the city centre and eventually ends at Old Trafford, in an effort to send a message to the Glazers, while there are also plans to boycott the game for 18 minutes.

In the protest announcement, which has been widely shared on social media, The 1958 said the 18-minute boycott at the start of the game would represent 'one minute for each year the Glazers have driven our club into the ground'.

After the 18-minute boycott, the group's intention is to decorate each corner of Old Trafford with anti-Glazer flags and banners.

The group are demanding a full sale and their statement read: "This is symbolic. It’s a nod to all Reds, past, present, future and those sadly no longer with us. Those who have battled against this ownership from the start and those joining the fight now.

"Bring the heat, bring the noise, bring the passion. Let's get our club back together."
