The first major of 2022 is upon us - The Masters begins on Thursday at Augusta National in Georgia, USA with a packed field vying for the coveted Green Jacket and the $2,070,000 prize money. Last year the tournament was won for the first time by an Asian golfer, with current world number 12 Hideki Matsuyama winning convincingly.
He is likely to be joined in the field by the returning Tiger Woods, with the 46-year-old having recovered from a car crash which could have ended his career in 2021. However, the legendary player is yet to confirm his attendance with any appearance set to be announced at the last minute - as a former champion he has an automatic entry whether or not he chooses to take it.
There is also a new name for fans to look out for in the form of new world number one Scottie Scheffler who enjoyed recent match play success.. The 25-year-old has won three times on the PGA Tour this year with wins in the Phoenix Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational and WGC Matchplay all to his name in 2022.

Another that will be on the lips of the patrons at Augusta is Will Zalatoris, who finished second behind Matsuyama last year and reached the quarter finals of the recent WGC Matchplay tournament in Austin. British and Irish hopes will once again be headed up by Rory McIlroy, who despite recent major heartache, remains a contender ranked number nine in the world.
He will be joined in the field by Tommy Fleetwood of Southport, Lee Westwood, Paul Casey, Robert MacIntyre, Tyrell Hatton, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and 2016 Champion Danny Willett, although all of these names are likely to have only an outside shot at glory.
