With a host of stalls selling gifts and festive snacks, the annual Christmas markets are a great way to soak up the atmosphere in the run-up to the big day - but if you are feeling peckish, your wallet might feel the pinch.
As the cost of living crisis impacts on the UK and the cost of food, in general, rises, it comes as no surprise that snacks at the Christmas markets will hit your wallet. The Cardiff Christmas Market and neighbouring festive quarter stalls opened on Thursday, November 10 and while there are plenty of delicious food options to try, the classic Christmas combination of bratwurst and a beer will set you back a bit.
At the market on the Hayes, the bratwurst will cost you £6 and the most expensive beer, Konig Ludwig Dunkel, is priced at £7 per pint making a pricey total of £13. Other beers on offer include the Kaltenburg which is priced at £6 and and is the cheapest available and the Warsteiner for £6.50 a pint.
A pint of cider will cost you £5, hot or cold. A mulled wine also costs £5, while a glass of wine is £4.80 and a glass of prosecco £5.50. If you don't fancy a traditional bratwurst sausage the Krakauer and kasekrainer will also cost £6 and a currywurst will set you back £6.50.
Other more expensive foodie treats at the market include crepes, which will set you back anything from £5 to £7. We tried the Nutella and strawberry crepe, costing £6. While the crepe was perfectly tasty, if a little plain, it was not worth the price tag.
If you are looking for something savoury, there is also a roast dinner stall, selling traditional roast potatoes for £3.50 and £4.50, burgers starting at £6 and a steak sandwich will set you back £7.50.
Cardiff Christmas Market is open until Friday, December 23 and as well as food stalls there are plenty of craft and gift stalls to enjoy. You can keep up to date with the latest What's On news by signing up to the newsletter here.
