The Masked Dancer's Kimberley Walsh trained with weighted vest for ITV show

Kimberley Walsh had to train in a weighted vest for The Masked Dancer.

The Girls Aloud star was unmasked as Odd Socks on the ITV guessing game over the weekend in a double elimination alongside Sea Slug, who was revealed to be Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis.

The singer left fans reeling as it was confirmed she was the one behind the Odd Socks mask, the costume inspired by her kids.

Kimberley appeared on This Morning today where she chatted with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary about the show and how it was something she was desperate to do for her kids.

"It's so much harder than I ever imagined. Watching it, I was like oh they look like they're having great fun and a ball. It's hard and I picked the most silly costume because I thought the kids would love it," she told Alison and Dermot.

"I didn't realise how heavy that many socks would be. I had to train in a weighted vest to get my body used to it. And their masks are like helmets that they crank really hard on your head. I came home and thought that's the workout for the day done."

Speaking after she was unmasked as Odd Socks, she shared: "My kids and my nephews are obsessed with the show and do Masked Dancer competitions every weekend so I wanted to do it for them.

"I’ve watched all the Masked shows with my boys but as I’m known for being a singer, I thought dancer would be more fun! It’s the hardest thing ever! I’m so close to my family, I feel like I have been avoiding them for weeks."

And Kimberley admits it had been a "huge challenge" due to the weight of the costume and the mask.

"I definitely still have nerves and I’m not sure how I’ll feel without the mask now it’s going to be very strange! I wanted to do lots of different styles to keep them guessing, much more fun," she explained.

"It’s a very heavy costume but so much fun. It’s definitely been a huge challenge."
