The Manchester Airport job vacancies open for applications now

Manchester Airport has many job vacancies that are open for applications now, with a range of opportunities available including roles in security, hospitality and IT – as well as some management roles. As part of the largest UK owned airport operator group, Manchester Airports Group (MAG), Manchester Airport supports over 19,000 jobs onsite and generates around £7.75bn each year for the region, according to its website.

The airport connects 27m passengers with more than 200 destinations around the world and is the UK’s third largest airport. Now in 2023, as the travel sector continues to experience increased post-pandemic demand, it is looking for new staff to support its business and the many customers that use it every day.

The MAG job site is currently offering opportunities across a variety of roles covering a range of salaries. Here are some of the roles you can apply for now:

Security Officer

£12.88 per hour

Manchester Airport has opportunities for male and female security officers, described by the employer as “one of the most vital roles in the airport.”

Duties within this role include:

  • Conducting hand searches of cabin luggage and passengers.
  • Body searching (pat-downs) of passengers.
  • Operating high-tech security equipment such as X-ray machines and body scanners.
  • Patrolling the terminals.
  • Checking staff ID cards and passenger boarding cards before entering the security area.
  • Greeting guests to ensure they receive the very best service.

No previous security experience is required as full training will be provided, but candidates should have experience in a customer service-based role. This role will require long periods of standing, bending, walking and manual handling.

The successful candidates will either work 38 hours in a full-time role or 31 hours in a part-time role on a range of shifts including night shifts, early mornings, weekends and bank holidays. Candidates will need to be flexible as shifts can vary in length between four and 12 hours.

Hospitality Chef

£12.00 per hour

MAG is looking to expand its Airport Hospitality Team with a new chef to provide customers in the airport’s Hospitality Lounges with the best start to their journey.

Duties within this role include:

  • Following recipes and/or product directions for preparing and cooking all varieties of foods.
  • Operating a variety of kitchen equipment.
  • Maintaining the food offering ensuring presentation meets operating standards.
  • Maintainung stock levels, receiving delivery of supplies, ensuring they are stored correctly, rotated and maintained.
  • Cleaning and organising the kitchen ensuring a high standard of hygiene, including cleaning floors and equipment.
  • Liaising with subcontracted suppliers, airline representatives, handling agents and booking agents to develop positive working relationships to ensure the efficient operation and development of the lounge.
  • Assisting with one-to-one training of new staff.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in the hospitality and service sectors, with a proven track record of high-end delivery. They must be flexible as will be required work a range of shifts, including from as early as 3.30am and until as late as 10.00pm.

This is a full-time role with 40 hours per week required.

Airfield Security Officer

£11.57 per hour (late shift pattern) or £12.36 per hour (early shift pattern)

The airport has several opportunities to join its busy Airfield Security Operations Team.

Duties within this role include:

  • Undertaking patrols by foot and vehicle of the airfield and perimeter fence.
  • Operating X-ray equipment and other screening and detection devices (including acting as a member of mobile X-ray team).
  • Carrying out searches of staff, airport workers, persons detained by HM Immigration, and their visitors.
  • Checking staff ID cards.
  • Preventing prohibited articles entering the restricted zone, and confiscating prohibited items.
  • Assisting in the evacuation of passengers, staff and visitors in emergency situations.
  • Report any suspicious persons/vehicles and any damage to the perimeter of the restricted zone.

Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence. Previous experience of working in the Airfield Operation and a current Airside Driving Permit would be advantageous.

This is a part-time role with 20 hours per week required with a varied shift pattern of early and late starts.

Ground Handler Manager

The Airport Operations Team at MAG is looking to fill the key role of Ground Handler Manager.

Duties within this role include:

  • Overseeing the effective implementation and ongoing management of the Ground Handling Service License.
  • Monitoring third party service providers conformance with licensing requirements and achievement of Minimum Airport Service Standards and taking appropriate action to drive performance improvements where necessary.
  • Leading a new multi-skilled Airport Resilience Team of around 100 colleagues, ensuring they are deployed to maximise operational value and protect service when disruption is predicted.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing large operational teams and contracts or service level agreements. They will also have great stakeholder management skills and be able to lead and influence at all levels.

Experience managing budgets and audit processes would be advantageous.

Apprentice Quantity Surveyor

£22,500 per annum

MAG has an exciting opportunity to work within its Capital Delivery team as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor and provide functional support to the Procurement and Contracts team. This is a great opportunity to earn a salary while acquiring new skills, qualifications, and hands-on experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for construction-related spend across multiple Framework Agreements and working to deliver category strategies that align with our organizational values, vision, and goals.

Duties within this apprenticeship include:

  • Negotiating contracts and prices.
  • Assessing, evaluating, and managing construction projects for best value and quality.
  • Life cycle costing, cost planning, procurement, and tendering.
  • Contract administration and commercial management.
  • Developing an understanding of the interactions between a building and its internal and external environments.
  • Learning how effective planning and resource management can impact on a project and its supply chain.
  • Exploring how risk and value management techniques can optimise whole life cost solutions.

On completion of the apprenticeship, the successful candidate will be awarded with a Level 6 apprenticeship qualification in Quantity Surveying, a BSC (Hons) and professional accreditation (RICS).

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • 8 GCSEs with grades ranging from A* to C or levels 4 to 9 – including Maths and English.
  • At least two A-level courses with grades C or higher.
  • Other equivalent that are also acceptable include BTEC Higher Diploma or National Certificate, City and Guilds Certificate Level 3 or NVQ Level 3.

This is a full-time role with 36.25 hours required. It is on an initial 60-month fixed contract starting May/June 23 or Sept/Oct 23.

Network Engineer

MAG is seeking a Network Engineer to join a service-focused team in the IT department as its infrastructure moves through an exciting transformative period.

Duties within this role include:

  • Providing support to MAG data networks to ensure a high quality of service to customers in a 24/7/365 fast-paced environment.
  • Responding to and fixing all LAN/WAN LAN/WAN, Wireless Network and security infrastructure faults using established best practice and standard for the completion of all known incidents and problems.
  • Performing analysis and troubleshooting on core network devices to determine baselines, bottlenecks and forecasts for capacity planning, using available tools to proactively monitor the state of the data networks.
  • Playing a key role in projects requiring change and development to the airport’s data network, focusing on the technical aspects of design and implementation.
  • Configuring network devices and their deployment into the production LAN/WAN, Wireless Network and security infrastructure and perform detailed risk analysis for any configuration changes needed to devices on the live environment.
  • Maintaining high level of support documentation, detailing the current design, topology and support mechanisms to help improve resolution times.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years’ experience in a similar Network Engineer role in a large, complex organisation, along with demonstrable competence on a variety of LAN (Cisco) and Wireless (Aruba) technologies, network protocols, Firewalls (ASA) and Firepower Configuration, VPNs and network management tools.

This is a full-time role with 36.25 hours required.

Kitchen Assistant

£11.42 per hour

As Manchester Airport’s business is growing and its passenger numbers are increasing, MAG is looking to recruit a Kitchen Assistant to join its team.

Duties within this role include:

  • Ensuring the kitchen and all storage locations are kept clean, hygienic and adhere to all health and safety standards.
  • Washing all crockery, cutlery and light equipment and cleaning kitchen ovens, fridges and floors in accordance with operating standards.
  • Ensuring any crockery, cutlery and equipment is stored correctly and that floors and fire exits are kept free of any obstacles.
  • Monitoring all waste disposal bins ensuring waste items are recycled by placing in correct waste disposal bins and adhering to the waste policy.
  • Clearing all breakages and spillages, following operating procedure and disposing of them correctly.
  • Taking receipt of all deliveries, ensuring all items arrive and are correctly put away ensuring stock rotation.
  • Transferring stock between units in all weathers, ensuring each unit is fully stocked daily.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong attention to details. Previous experience in a similar a role would be advantageous.

This is a full-time role with 40 hours per week required.

Technical Auditor

The airport is looking for a Technical Auditor to join its Permit to Work team, with a focus on retail maintenance.

Duties within this role include:

  • Registering contractors via MAG’s selected Permit to Work system.
  • Assessing risk assessments and method statements for proposed works and processing works access requests.
  • Carrying out on site audits of contractor activities.
  • Providing guidance to contractors and others stakeholders around MAG’s Permit to Work policies.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in an engineering discipline, with a knowledge of engineering contracts. They will also need good understanding of Health and Safety, with a related qualification being beneficial.

Project Manager

There is an opportunity to join the busy, diverse and challenging environment of Manchester Airport as a project manager in the Capital Delivery Team.

Duties within this role include:

  • Delivering the Capital Plan safely, on time and within budget.
  • Providing new or replaced assets to support the operational needs of the business.
  • Working on the many construction projects across Manchester Airport, including terminals, airfields and other existing infrastructure.
  • Planning, prioritising and managing multiple projects, ensuring delivery as promised.
  • Management of contractors.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience of project development, from the explore stage through to handover, as well as knowledge of large and small greenfield and brownfield project delivery in mature assets. Experience managing third party approvals is also essential, as is proven commercial acumen and the ability to contribute to building and presenting a credible CAPEX business case.
