Nottinghamshire is full of quaint, charming villages with rich histories. Yet, in centuries gone by, the county was full of a lot more of these small settlements - and there are some interesting stories and myths behind why they are no longer around.
Villages across the county have been deserted or abandoned at times due to pressure from landowners, migration elsewhere, and the plague. Other villages, such as Grimston and Raleigh, were supposedly hit by earthquakes, or 'swallowed beneath the ground.'
