The Lord of the Rings timeline is no easy beast to understand. It's massive, sprawling, and there's a lot to take in. But there's no better time than now to get up to speed as we start preparing for The Rings of Power season 3 and The Hunt for Gollum.
However, before we start breaking down all the happenings in Middle-earth, for Rings of Power fans, we need to clear something up. For the Second Age, in which The Rings of Power takes place, we have kept to the dates from the book and not added what happens in the TV series. That's because the show condenses events massively and sometimes breaks canon. Therefore, we have decided to go with the original text, as working out when the show takes place would be nearly impossible. The same goes for Jackson's trilogies – we're sticking with the books, not the movies.
