- Ukrainian officials say at least 13 people have been killed and another 50 wounded after the attack
- Two Russian missiles slammed into a crowded shopping mall in the industrial city of Kremenchuk just before 4pm local time. A huge fire engulfed the shopping complex, and the centre's roof caved in
- Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that around 1,000 people were inside the shopping mall at the time
- The Regional governor said there were no military targets nearby and described the strike as an "act of terrorism against civilians''

- Millennials are now rivalling baby boomers as Australia's largest generation — those in the 25 to 39 cohort make up 21.5 per cent of the population, which is now the same as those in the 55 to 74 age bracket
- It was also the first census since same-sex marriages were allowed in Australia and 24,000 unions were officially recorded
- India has become the second-most-common source country for Australians born overseas, overtaking China and New Zealand
- And we're getting less religious — for the first time, fewer than half of Australians identified as Christian, though Christianity remained the nation's most common religion (declared by 43.9 per cent of the population)

- Former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor, who fatally shot unarmed Australian woman Justine Ruszczyk, has been released from prison, 18 days before the fifth anniversary of the fatal shooting. Noor was released 10 months after his murder conviction was overturned and he was sentenced on a lesser charge
- Also in the US, the committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riots has announced a surprise extra hearing to present "recently obtained" evidence. The panel had said there would be no more hearings until July
- Train disruptions in NSW will start today. The Rail, Tram and Bus Union says trains will be slowed to 60km per hour — Transport for New South Wales has said there'll be up to 50 per cent fewer normal services during peak periods today. The union's protests are about safety concerns on the new intercity fleet
- A final report into culture and accountability issues in the Queensland government is due for release today. The Premier's already committed to implementing all its recommendations
