Update: Two 14-year-olds, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old die in car crash
Police have confirmed that two girls aged 14, a boy and a girl aged 15 and a 16-year-old boy have died in a car crash south-west of Sydney overnight.
The ABC understands at least three of the victims were in year 9 at Picton High.

Coming up: Kyrgios vs Khachanov in US Open quarter-final
It's all kicking off in roughly an hour and a half — Nick Kyrgios faces Russian Karen Khachanov for a spot in the US Open semi-finals.
Whoever wins will face Casper Ruud for a spot in the final — Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Andrey Rublev and Francis Tiafoe are all still in contention for the other finals slot.

ICYMI: Queensland man killed on Ukrainian frontline
In case you missed it, a 27-year-old man from Queensland has died in Ukraine while working as a combat medic.
Jed Danahay, from Nanango, was driving a vehicle that was hit by Russian fire a fortnight ago.
Nanango MP Deb Frecklington told ABC Radio Brisbane that the community is devastated by the news.
"You know he's got a big heart, very kind-hearted and you can tell that with the work that he was doing in Ukraine," she said.
"He'll be sorely missed by his family. It's an absolute tragedy."

Coming up (not today): Joe Biden to commemorate 9/11 at Pentagon
The White House says US President Joe Biden will mark the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 attacks later this week at the Pentagon.
First Lady Jill Biden will speak at the Flight 93 National Memorial Observance in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband will go to New York City for a commemoration ceremony at the National September 11 Memorial.

Just in: Woman killed in shark attack in the Bahamas
Police say a 58-year-old woman from Pennsylvania has died after a shark attack in the Bahamas.
The woman and her family, who were passengers on Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas, were visiting New Providence for the day and had booked a snorkelling excursion — something the area is known for.
Authorities say family members saw the woman being attacked by a bull shark and tried to rescue her alongside tour company employees, but she was declared dead when she arrived back at mainland New Providence.

As we've already heard this morning, British PM Liz Truss met with the Queen and was sworn in overnight.
It's the first time we've seen the 96-year-old in two months, with mobility issues meaning she hasn't been able to conduct as many public engagements.

Uvalde students return to school
Students in Uvalde, Texas, have returned to classes for the first time since a gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School killing 19 students and two teachers in May.
Students who formerly attended Robb Elementary have been reassigned to three different elementary schools.
At Dalton Elementary School, police officers were on site and the school surrounded by security fencing as children walked to their classrooms.
Many parents in Uvalde say they are unsure whether they are putting their children in harm's way by sending them off to school.

News while you snoozed: IAEA says Russia and Ukraine 'playing with fire' in Zaporizhzhia
The International Atomic Energy Agency has urged Russia and Ukraine to establish a "nuclear safety and security protection zone" around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant amid mounting fears the fighting could trigger a catastrophe in a country still scarred by the Chernobyl disaster.
"The physical attacks, wittingly or unwittingly, the hits that this facility has received and that I could personally see and assess together with my experts is simply unacceptable," IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi warned the UN Security Council after leading an inspection visit to the plant.
"We are playing with fire, and something very, very catastrophic could take place."

ICYMI: Australia beats New Zealand in first ODI in Cairns
And what an end to the match it was!
Cameron Green and Alex Carey steered Australia to an unlikely victory over New Zealand in their opening ODI with the hosts languishing at 5-44 at one stage, but a 158-run partnership saved the day.
As if the match didn't have enough drama, it began to pour with the score 8-225 (Australia was only chasing 233 to win).
Players were forced from the field and the covers were dragged out, then promptly removed again just minutes later.

Liz Truss kicks off cabinet reshuffle
British Prime Minister Liz Truss made key appointments to her government after being formally appointed leader on Tuesday.
Ms Truss has appointed Therese Coffey to deputy prime minister and health secretary in a cabinet reshuffle.
She has also appointed business and energy secretary Kwasi Kwarteng as the new finance minister.
Most supporters of Rishi Sunak — who lost to Ms Truss in a ballot of Conservative Party members — have been dumped from senior positions.

Update: Canadian suspect still unaccounted for
Canadian police have confirmed they haven't found a wanted man in an hours-long search triggered by reports of a possible sighting of the second suspect in a weekend stabbing spree that left 10 people dead.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Saskatchewan have been on the hunt for two brothers suspected of dozens of stabbings that devastated an indigenous community in Canada on Sunday, but one of the brothers was found dead yesterday.
"As his whereabouts remain unknown, we urge the public to take appropriate precautions," the RCMP said in a statement.

Update: Five killed in car crash south-west of Sydney
Five, people, believed to all be teenagers, have died after a single-vehicle accident in Buxton, south-west of Sydney, overnight.
Three female and two male passengers died at the scene, and police say the 18-year-old driver has been taken to Liverpool Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
He's been arrested and tested for drugs and alcohol.
Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould said he understands the teenagers all attended Picton High School, where counselling has been made available.
"Everyone in our community is in shock," he said.
Superintendent Paul Fuller said it was one of the worst accident scenes he had seen in 38 years as a police officer.

Tunisian Jabeur, who was the runner-up at Wimbledon earlier this year, becomes the first woman from Africa to ever reach a US Open semi-final.

It's official — the first men's singles semifinalist at the US Open has been decided.
Norway's Casper Ruud beat Italian Matteo Berrettini in straight sets to advance to the next round — he'll face either Karen Khachanov of Russia or Australia's own Nick Kyrgios next.

News while you snoozed: The Don't Worry Darling drama will not end
Sigh. How do I even begin to explain this in a way that makes any sense?
So yesterday, the internet absolutely blew up over a video that some people think appeared to show Harry Styles spitting at Chris Pine during a screening of Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry Darling at the Venice Film Festival.
Cue an influx of memes coming through quicker than we've seen since the federal election.
There's HEAPS more drama around the whole film and most of the cast but that's just too much to fit in here right now.
Now, a spokesperson for Chris Pine has told People that the spit absolutely did not happen — and that "any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist".
"This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation," the rep told the US publication.
Ridiculous indeed.

Australia is searching for: The Matildas
Despite an improved performance, the Matildas lost 2-1 in their second and final friendly against Olympic gold medallists Canada in Sydney.
Sport reporter Samantha Lewis says it was a bit of a tough loss to take.
"Australia never quite looked the same after going behind. That's the big thing this group will need to work on going forward: believing in themselves as much as their adoring fans lining the fences do," she wrote last night.

Developing story: Sighting of stabbing suspect appears to be false alarm
Police had shut down roads and surrounded a home on the James Smith Cree First Nation earlier, potentially closing in on Myles Sanderson who is wanted over the stabbing deaths of multiple people.
But an official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that it looks like it was a false alarm.
It's not clear if Sanderson was ever in the area at this stage.
His brother, Damien Sanderson, was found dead on Monday near the sites of the fatal stabbings.
