On the third Monday of January each year, the United States pauses to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday honouring the civil rights icon.
It was in 1963 that Dr. King delivered his seminal "I Have a Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, a location he chose partly to honour Abraham Lincoln, describing him as "a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today."
